Are you tired of your slow, unreliable dial-up connection to access the Internet?  Then DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) might be for you.  Century Telephone first started offering DSL  service in the Pagosa area back in August of 2001.  Clients that we’ve worked with have been pleased with the service so far, with comments such as “It’s great not having our connection dropped all the time,” and “We’ve really noticed the difference in speed and responsiveness when browsing the Web and downloading e-mail.”

Here are the facts:

• Cost is $50/mo. for Single-user, $80/mo. for Multi-user.  A DSL modem must be purchased for $120 for Single-user, and $280 for Multi-user.
• DSL is now available in most of the major population centers in the Pagosa area.
• You can eliminate your extra phone line(s) and current ISP charges used for dial-up internet access, which reduces the overall extra cost.
• The connection can be shared by multiple computers at the same time.
• Customers are seeing speed increases of 3 to 10 times their current dial-up speed.
• The connection is “always on” – no more waiting for the dial-up process.
• Your computer is more vulnerable to “hackers”, so you will want to use a firewall.  More on this in a later article.
